In the Fall of 2016, local St. George businesses came together to provide some playful relief for one area family.

In the summer, Farm Buearu Financial Services Agent, Kaitlyn Lundberg, decided to find a local family to help. After narrowing her list down to one very deserving family, it was clear that this was the right family to help!

“I just wanted to find a way to give-back in the community,” said Kaitlyn.

Peter and Deborah Skouson, both teachers, have five children who all have some form of learning and physical disabilities or autism. Deborah, a former Special Education teacher, was let go from her position and with the increasing medical costs; things have been tight financially for the family.

After obtaining a small list of items that the family could benefit from, Kaitlyn reached out to local businesses for help in donating to this family in need.

Buddy Mail Advertising in Southern Utah, purchased a much-needed playset for the children. The Lifetime Store in St. George donated their staff to assemble the set while all the children were at school. Jones Paint and Glass also donated a shatterproof mirror for one of the children.

“The children are going to absolutely love it,” said Deborah about the new playset. Deborah shared how one of her daughters, with the most severe autism, will find ways to get out of the house and will go down the street to a neighbors house to play on their swing (without the family knowing she’s escaped). Now, she has no reason to leave her own backyard!

“It’s the small things that make the most impact,” said Jill Hunt, Buddy Mail Affiliate Owner in St. George. “I’m grateful to be a tiny part of this experience in helping children have more joy and a family a little more relief here in the community.”
